Catharina Hampson-Brans OAM was born and educated in Amsterdam. She married an Australian in Amsterdam and moved to Brisbane Australia. Opportunities for working seriously in sculpture in Australia were limited until her four children grew up. She studied Applied Decoration at the Technical College in Brisbane in 1963 and 1964 and Modelling under George Virine in the Seventies. In 1989 and, again, in 1996 she participated in the Bronze Casting course at the Sommer Akademie Fuer Bildende Kunst at Salzburg (Austria) under Professor Josef Zenzmaier. Catharina prefers to model her subjects in clay or wax at her home studio and then have the model cast at a foundry in bronze. Works in |
